VICTORY In Trial Against Major League Pitcher

Grimes LLC, led by Managing Partner Chuck Grimes, achieved a substantial trial victory on behalf of Miguel Valdes against Major League Baseball Pitcher Jose Contreras and his agent, Jaime Torres Sports Management, Inc.

Miguel Valdes is well-known in baseball as the former technical manager of Cuban baseball and director of the Cuban National Team. Valdes played an instrumental role in helping Major League pitcher Jose Contreras defect to the United States. In 2002, when Contreras signed a $32 million contract with the New York Yankees, Contreras and his agent, Jaime Torres, engaged Valdes to help Contreras acclimate to life in the U.S. and to coach Contreras in connection with his efforts to succeed as an MLB pitcher. With Valdes’ assistance, Contreras succeeded beyond his wildest dreams. Unfortunately, Contreras and Torres failed to make agreed upon payments to Valdes, forcing Valdes to file an action in the 11th Judicial Circuit in Miami-Dade County, Florida in 2008.

Following a week-long trial, a Florida jury rendered a verdict in favor of Valdes on all counts and awarded Valdes substantial damages.

Congratulations to Miguel for the significant victory!
